Birthday celebrations

Four hour train journey to Pilsen was the way I started the day to my birthday. It was a brilliant train journey with a couple of train changes and we arrived late in the city. Our main goal for the day was to visit and tour the Pilsener Urqell brewery. We raced to the brewery knowing the English guided tour was starting with the next one not for another two hours. We made it but didn't realise we had to pay to take photos. So no photos . It was brilliant. I love Pilsener beer it is lighter and doesn't affect me with headaches etc. we went underground in the maze of tunnels that were used to brew the beer. It was freezing and damp down there. Loved it . Very interesting how it all started and how long the have been brewing. They had to hide everything during the wars and occupation. It was a great tour.

We were going to stay for a couple of hours in the city have lunch and be gone back to Cesky Krumlov. We found a Spanish restaurant and ordered a paella for two. It was cooked from scratch so didn't come for what seemed an eternity. We were clock watching as the trains only returned every two hours. We then decided to stay longer. The paella was divine, between us we could only manage to eat half of it.

We wandered around the older part of Pilsen ..it was beautiful. The weather was so nice and all sorts of cycling events and family fun days were occurring. We have never visited inside a synagogue and came across the second biggest synagogue in Europe or the world. I forget. It had a history of fires and occupation and rebuilding and renovation.

No tour, just us wandering upstairs and downstairs. Massive place and there was a great photographic exhibition adorning the walls. It was truly great to be there.

Coffee next..it was a bucket load and the best coffee we had in a long time. It was great sitting near the gardens and watching the world drift by.

It was a memorable birthday . By the time we arrived back in Cesky Krumlov we were tired and happy.

On our walk home from the train station the streets were deserted.

Thank you Nick for the best day and a fantastic holiday thus far. Xxxxx
