As we were arriving into Prague by bus,I sent an sms to Adam who had visited once with his friend Stuart when they were 21 and the second time with his wife Eva. He replied with make sure you have a Pilsener Urquell...the next sign we saw was this. Of course after that we saw it everywhere.
We stayed at a hostel in the "New Town". It was third floor up in a very old building. It was clean, cheap and quiet. When I say new town it was still old for us. As we set off walking to find our way around. I was a little disappointed as it wasn't what I thought it would be like especially in Wencelas Square. As we made our way down we were inundated by a group of very drunk topless lads. They were very violent..trashing a chair at a restaurant in front of us. Very scary to witness. They were chanting slogans. My first thought was Prague might not be what we expected. There were bill boards advertising pub crawls for visiting groups. The police surrounded them and they dispersed quickly. Never again did we see that in Prague. The gardens in Prague are a welcome sight.
The square itself is actually a rectangle. It is huge. At the top of the square is the museum and huge sculptures. The streets are cobbled everywhere.. Very funny to see the young women hobbling along with their heels. Not much traffic either so we could walk where ever we liked. We went back to Wencelas a couple of times and it always was different. We never saw any buskers there again.
